OptiView Browser Refresh analyzer list Re-displays the analyzer list with current active analyzers. OptiView Reporter is an optional software package that allows you to generate a variety of professional reports based on measurements taken by an OptiView Workgroup Analyzer or an OptiView Integrated Network Analyzer. Front Page Screen The Front Page screen is an overview and starting point to monitor and test your network.
This screen summarizes the current network by presenting the closest switch Switch Statistics button , any network problems Problem Discovery button , all connected devices Device Discovery button on the current broadcast domain, and statistics Protocol and Utilization Statistics buttons. Analyzer activity and errors are reported here. This button indicates the link speed, and duplex mode shown by solid and outlined arrows.
In this example it shows a Mbit full duplex connection two solid arrows. A green check mark indicates that the analyzer passed self test and obtained a valid IP address for the local network. The nearest switch is discovered by examining the bridge forwarding tables of all discovered local switches.
Pressing this button navigates directly to the Tools Interface Statistics screen for this switch. The Utilization Statistics button shows network unicast, multicast, broadcast, collisions, and error percent detail for the connected network segment. Packet Capture files are saved as. Measurable cable lengths are from 1 meter to meters approximately 3 feet to feet. The correct cable type must be selected in the Cable Test screen to report correct measurements.

See page 2 for phone numbers. You'll either need to be able to mirror a device's port at the switch it's connected to, or have switches with NetFlow capabilities, which can do small packet captures in the switch. If everything at the lower layers of the network seems fine, the OptiView XG can perform full packet capture and protocol analysis to see where any reported problems lie. If a user reports a network problem, you can use this to see if there really is a problem — and if so where it lies.
In many cases it can do this without you having to leave your desk, so it can save you a lot of time just travelling around the building. When a user reports a problem with a network service, you can use the OptiView XG's Path Analysis function to see if there are any network issues between their PC and the machine providing the service — often without having to leave your desk. The OptiView XG does what it does very well. It can collect vast amounts of information from just about any network-connected device.
The software's point-and-click interface allows you to drill into the information the device has collected quickly and easily, and you can diagnose some networking problems without needing to visit the affected parts of the network.
However, to gather that information you need to have a well-managed network in the first place. If you've just set up equipment on an ad-hoc basis without setting up extra management functions, the OptiView XG will only be able to provide a minimum of information.
Equally, once you've identified the problem you still have to know how to solve it — the OptiView XG won't do it for you. Lastly, there's the price. You're unlikely to be able to spend that kind of money on a single device without a good reason, so you'll need to have a very large network comprising thousands of devices to justify the cost.
Also, you'll already be spending a measurable number of hours per week dealing with network problems of some kind. If you can't tick those boxes, it doesn't matter how good the OptiView XG is and it is very good , it will never repay your investment. Doogee S80 hands-on: A waterproof, rugged walkie-talkie phone.
